COVID 19- UPDATE

On the 10.5.2020 the Prime Minister addressed the nation, and advised of the new measures going forward to deal with the COVID 19 pandemic. For the last 8 weeks we have all been in lockdown and as a result Justin Steward Clearances and Recycling (JSCR) has not been operational.
Following the government guidelines very carefully and taking into account the recent PM announcement we can advise that JSCR will once again be operational. We however are not rushing into it, and we have planned returning back to work extensively in accordance with the guidelines.
We are currently operating on a reduced service, and all jobs will have a thorough risk assessment carried out before any work is completed. All jobs will be carried out with no contact and all social distancing measures will be adhered too strictly. If this cannot be done then it is likely that the job will need to be carried out at a later date when it is safe to do so.
Our main priority is everyone’s safety which is why we have put into place a series of protocols in order to do so.
1. A risk assessment will be carried out prior to every job to deem safe to complete.
2. We will operate on a no contact basis and social distancing will be maintained.
3. Ideally items should be left in a pre-agreed place, and we will ask where and what access is like before booking a job in.
4. For scrap, garden and jobs where items are being collected the client will be called and advised that JSCR are on the way and if access is clear/ open and all invoices and paperwork such as Waste Transfer Notes will be posted after the job has been completed.
5. We will be washing and sanitizing our hands before and after every job as wearing gloves and where needed we will also wear protective masks.
6. At present all jobs that require us to go inside a house, will need to be rebooked at a later date when safe to do so.
7. Staff members are solely from one household at this stage.
8. A link to this blog which includes all protocols will be sent out in advance to all clients and the exact procedure for their job will be explained to them before the job is booked in and completed.
We are following government guidelines and daily updates very carefully so we will aim to keep this as updated as it can be to ensure all of our clients are aware of the systems we have put into place.

Following on from the Government’s announcement, we would like to announce that we are still operating, but this is on a reduced service basis. Each job that is currently booked in will be risk assessed and all COVID guidelines adhered too. For many of the clearances we will ask you to put the items outside so we can collect on a no contact basis. If possible we would like to ask you to sanitise the items, however we will also do this on collection and we will be wearing gloves and a mask. At present we will not be entering the inside of properties for house clearances unless the property has been vacated for some time. We have been in touch with the relevant companies and authorities to ensure that we can continue to offer a clearance service to you in a way that keeps everyone as safe as possible. Here at Justin Steward Clearances and Recycling we regularly try to help and give back to the community. This can take a variety of forms, from donating to charities, helping local animal shelters, collecting food wrappers and sponsoring the local football team; Longham FC . We had the pleasure of sponsoring this local team last year 2019/2020. Founded in 2016 by Allex Clarke and Tom Brooks this local team soon gained promotion after just one season of playing. The club went on to win the league after just two seasons and to date has expanded to incorporate a reserves side who also received promotion, and now a Sunday league side. Ever growing this team have gone from strength to strength and we are proud to support them. They have now been promoted to the Anglian Combination Division Four league. Recently, the team have not been able to play due to COVID 19 and instead have focused their energy on trying to gain funding for their pitch to be redone after being deemed as unsafe by the FA. For each like they get on the following page, the club will receive one point, for each £10 donation they will receive 10 points. They have now launched a social media campaign to get as many likes as they can to receive part of a £85,000 Calor Rural Community Fund . The club are desperate to return back to Longham which has housed a football team there for over 50 years. The football club is at the heart of the small village and it allows team members and villagers alike to come together to enjoy the game and community spirit that it brings. Being able to help get the word out to help Longham FC is something we are only too happy to do, and we hope you are also able to help this local team achieve their goal of being able to continue to play at Longham. We are happy to announce that we will be sponsoring Longham FC for the upcoming 2020/2021 season, with a number of other fantastic local Norfolk businesses. It's all about the scrap. We’ve all been there, the hoover dies, you get another but what exactly do you do with the old one? Then as summer approaches you realize the BBQ didn’t last through the winter as is most certainly on it’s last legs. The pile in the garage or near the bins is growing but what exactly do you do with it? You know it cannot stay there forever and nor can you put it curb side for the bin men to take and you most certainly cannot sneak your old clapped out washing machine in the green bin that’s for sure. Suddenly, it’s summer and as your tidying up and getting the paddling pool and sun loungers out you realize that you’ve built up quite a modern art display of old metal and electrical appliances. If you are lucky enough to have a car and are near a recycling centre you could always take it there, but sometimes it really isn’t that easy getting an broken cooker into the back of your hatchback to go there. Then you have the minefield of laws and regulations surrounding the scrap metal collection business. Gone are the days where you would have a van come down the road shouting for your old scrap metal. Now, and rightly so, you should only use individuals and companies who have a current and up to date waste carrier and scrap metal licence which is valid in your area. You must be given a waste transfer note once the item has been collected. You need to be aware that if your items have been found not be disposed of correctly you may receive a fine and this includes if you have paid for someone to have taken away and they have dumped them. There are a number of companies who offer a scrap metal collection service who will come and collect it, along with your old appliances which is a service that J ustin Steward Clearances and Recycling offer. But what happens to those items once they’ve been collected? The majority of old appliances such as washing machines and tumble dryers are sent of to be refurbished and start again as a fully working and operational machine. Refurbishing an old appliance, cuts down on the emissions and energy it takes to create a new one, and is more cost effective as well. It also reduces the amount of appliances sent to landfill which can be used again. Any scrap metal that cannot be repurposed, is recycled responsibly and correctly in accordance with guidelines. By doing this, it again cuts the amount going to landfill, reduces c02 emissions and most metal has many uses, such as recycled steel being used for train tracks, aluminium being used to build aeroplanes, making new home furnishings and is also a great material for artwork as well. It seems wherever you go at the moment, you will inevitably see some form of fly tipping. A dumped three piece suite in a field, a shopping trolley in a ditch or black bags of household waste dumped on the side of the road.
